My personal choice for sustainable yoga and swimwear: the Swiss brand Oy

I, Cinzia, have been a loyal and happy Oy customer for almost ten years. Today, I also wear Oy's sustainable pieces for my yoga practice. It is with great joy and honor that we now offer a small selection of their bikinis, swimsuits, leggings, and other active and yoga wear in our range. When I started surfing more than nine years ago, I bought my very first bikini from Oy. It held up great in every situation, even during my biggest battles with the waves. By the way, I still own this first surf bikini, and it's still in use after so many years of regular wear. And that's exactly what sustainability means to me. So, the quality of Oy products was very high from the beginning. But it has improved even more over the years. I can confirm this from my own experience.

The Story of Oy and the Surf Bikini That Stays in Place

The Oy brand was founded in 2012 in Switzerland and Bali, out of the need for a surf bikini that wouldn't slip, was comfortable, made of high-quality material, and looked good. With a high demand for functionality, without compromising on design, Oy has since developed and produced high-quality and durable surf and activewear.

In 2012, production initially began in Bali. However, since they source their recycled fabrics from Europe, they relocated production to Portugal. This allowed Oy to significantly reduce the transportation routes for materials and products, thereby greatly reducing their overall ecological footprint.

Since 2020, Oy has been led by siblings and enthusiastic surfers Zelia and Dario Zadra, based in Zurich and Berlin. At the end of 2020, they were able to pause, rediscover themselves, and realize what Oy truly stands for. The mission hasn't changed: functionality without compromising on design. Oy is the sustainable surf bikini that stays put – only better! Since 2021, they have presented themselves with a new logo and optimized products.

Focus on Functionality and Quality

What sets Oy products apart is their ultimate functionality, quality, and flexibility. The surf bikinis have the perfect fit and offer maximum support without restricting freedom of movement. They are suitable not only for surfing but for any type of water sport or activity in the water.

Most Oy surf bikini tops have fixed and crossed straps at the back. This eliminates pressure on the neck, leaves the shoulder blades free for a perfect range of motion, and ensures the bikini stays in place. Oy's various bikini bottoms offer good coverage. The practical hip bands can be tightened as needed or desired, guaranteeing optimal support.

Although Oy is geared towards the surf and water sports scene, they have also designed various complementary products such as leggings and tops with functional cuts and good design for female athletes and yogis.

Production & Design at Oy

Oy products are manufactured in Portugal by a small family business under fair working conditions. They use only the most resistant and high-quality fabrics, all sourced in Europe. This ensures that the surf bikinis last a long time without losing their shape and color.

All fabrics for surf and yoga wear are made in Italy, from recycled raw materials originating in Slovenia. The production facility is located north of Porto, Portugal, and currently employs 22 full-time staff. Appreciation for employees is enormous; fair wages, safety, and well-being are always prioritized and regularly checked by objective third parties.

OY products are developed and designed in Switzerland. Thanks to their expertise and background in product design, coupled with their passion for surfing, Oy can put enormous know-how into product development.

Oy places great importance on sustainability

They are always looking for new innovative materials, ideally based on renewable or natural resources.

They strive to produce products with the smallest possible impact on nature, yet still high-performing. The fabrics Oy uses for their surf bikinis and leggings consist largely of recycled yarn such as Econyl® and recycled polyester.

When developing new products, selecting materials, or purchasing packaging materials, Oy always follows its R-principles — Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Resell, Recycle.

In the future, Oy aims to achieve a circular economy where its products can be 100% recycled.
